Elenger Begins Deliveries of Liquefied Biomethane to Tallink Ships
Elenger has started supplying liquefied biomethane, or bio-LNG, to Tallink’s newest vessel, MyStar. Liquefied biomethane produced from renewable raw materials significantly reduces shipping emissions and supports climate goals in the Baltic Sea region.
“Through its sustainable choices, Tallink sets an example for other operators in the Baltic Sea, and Elenger has supported this long-term development from the very beginning. Tallink adopted LNG technology back in 2017 and is now transitioning toward the broader use of biomethane-based natural gas,” says Margus Kaasik, CEO of Elenger Group.
Paavo Nõgene, CEO of Tallink Grupp, adds that the company plans to switch entirely to bio-LNG on both the MyStar and Megastar vessels within a year. “This also allows our customers to reduce their own environmental impact by choosing Tallink,” Nõgene notes.
Natural gas produced from biomethane has already established itself as a fuel in road transport and industry, but its use in maritime transport is steadily increasing. The bio-LNG supplied by Elenger is certified and meets international quality standards.
