Elenger’s parent company opens one of Estonia’s largest biomethane plants
Elenger’s parent company, Infortar, has opened a new biomethane plant in Halinga, Pärnu County, Estonia. Elenger will be responsible for the commercial utilisation of the plant’s output, with the company aiming to purchase the facility’s entire production and manage the distribution of the gas.

The new biomethane plant will increase the volume of renewable gas supplied to the market through Elenger. By the end of this year, nearly one-sixth of all gas consumed in Estonia will be produced locally from cattle manure and biowaste.
Biomethane supports the transition to lower-emission energy production and integrates agriculture, waste management, energy, and transport into a circular economy model.
“Gas is becoming more local and more renewable with every passing year. The Halinga plant will significantly increase the share of biomethane in Estonia’s gas consumption. Biomethane is a practical transition solution that increases the share of renewable energy without compromising security of supply,” said Margus Kaasik, Chairman of the Management Board of Elenger.
The €15 million plant was financed by SEB and received support from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU Recovery and Resilience Facility.
In spring 2024, Infortar acquired a 51% stake in Halinga, one of Estonia’s largest dairy farming companies. Together with its partners, Infortar has invested nearly €30 million in biomethane production facilities.
