Elenger Grupp and Gasum Agree on Supplying Bio-LNG for Tallink’s MyStar

Elenger Grupp has signed a cooperation agreement with the Nordic energy company Gasum to supply bio-LNG to Tallink as part of the EU’s new FuelEU Maritime regulation, which requires shipping companies to reduce emissions from maritime transport.

Under the agreement, Elenger will begin supplying bio-LNG produced at Gasum’s facility in Pori to Tallink’s vessel MyStar. The vessel’s use of bio-LNG will generate a significant amount of emission credits for Gasum.

The agreement strengthens Elenger’s role as a leading provider of maritime energy solutions in the Baltic Sea region and takes Tallink’s environmental efforts to the next level, says Margus Kaasik, CEO of Elenger.

According to Näkki, in addition to investing in distribution infrastructure, Elenger is continuously investing in its own biogas production.

“We want to help shipping companies operating in the Baltic Sea meet the new environmental requirements in a cost-effective and reliable way,” Kaasik says.

Tallink aims to fully replace the LNG consumption of both MyStar and Megastar with biomethane. This will enable passengers and freight customers to travel across the Gulf of Finland in a lower-emission way.
